Forma · reps counted by the camera

Every rep counted.
And checked.

Put the phone down, step into the frame and start. The camera counts your reps and checks range of motion, tempo and body position. Half reps don’t count.

Forma in 30 seconds

Forma in 30 seconds: the camera counts squats, push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, lunges and the plank, then Forma in company and gym competitions.

Forma

The camera counts every rep and checks your form. The people in the video are generated, but the counting is the app’s own, exactly as on your phone.

How it works

1. Place the phone

The page tells you where for each exercise: for push-ups on the floor, to the side, about one metre away; for squats about two metres away.

2. Get into the start position

The skeleton on screen turns green when you are in position, then you hear the 3-2-1 beeps and “Start”. A voice tells you what to fix.

3. The camera counts

Incomplete, too fast or wrongly done reps are not counted, and the voice tells you why. The set ends when you stop.

4. The server checks

An automatic referee recounts the set from the movement data. Only then do you get the points and enter the leaderboard.

The exercises

Seven exercises, each with its own rules. Points are per rep; for the plank, per 5 seconds held.

Push-ups 6 points per rep

Phone
On the floor, propped up, about 1 m to the side or at an angle, so your whole body shows, head to ankles.
Counts
Going down with the elbows bent at least 55°, the body straight from shoulders to ankles, then arms fully extended.
Doesn’t count
Knees on the floor, arched back (“cobra”), hands moved, push-ups filmed from the front.
Push-ups leaderboard ›

Pull-ups 10 points per rep

Phone
Propped up and still, 2–3 m away, from the front or the side; the bar, hands and head in frame.
Counts
Start hanging with straight arms; the whole body rises until the chin reaches the bar, hands stay on the bar.
Doesn’t count
Moving only the arms without the body rising, moving the phone, jumping off the floor.
Pull-ups leaderboard ›

Squats 2 points per rep

Phone
About 2 m away, from the front or the side, head to toe in frame.
Counts
Knees bent at least 95°, on both legs, then standing fully up.
Doesn’t count
Short knee bounces, reps that are too fast, feet very wide apart, one-leg reps.
Squats leaderboard ›

Sit-ups 4 points per rep

Phone
At your feet or to the side, so your torso and knees show.
Counts
Lying down, knees bent and feet on the floor, you raise the torso at least 35°.
Doesn’t count
Leg raises, sit-ups with the legs in the air, swinging up with the legs, fast rocking.
Sit-ups leaderboard ›

Lunges 2 points per rep

Phone
About 2 m away, head to toe in frame.
Counts
Forward or side lunge with the knee bent at least 90°, then back to standing with the feet together.

Lunges leaderboard ›

Jumping jacks leaderboard ›

Plank 2 points every 5 seconds

Phone
From the side, about 1.5 m away, so shoulders, hips and ankles show.

Points, levels and XP

Points per rep

Set points = verified reps × the exercise’s points. Pull-ups are worth the most because they are the hardest. A set brings at most points.

10 levels per exercise

Verified reps move you up the exercise’s levels, from 1 to 10. Your level and record show on the exercise card.

XP across your account

Forma points go into your account XP, together with workouts and Arena. Your fitness level grows from all three.

Double points for an approved record

Film the set with your phone, post the clip, and someone from PlanSports checks it. The approved record gets the ✓ and double points.

Approved records

The athlete posted the clip of the set counted by the phone camera, and someone from PlanSports checked it. Open their card and try to beat it.

No cheating

The automatic referee

The phone sends the movement data and the server recounts the set with the same algorithm, checking that the movement is human: rhythm, natural jitter, body position. A fabricated or implausible set gets 0.

Rules learned from real sets

Every rule above comes from a real attempt to fool the counter: “cobra” push-ups, bounces instead of squats, pull-ups with a moving phone. We saw them in the data and now they don’t pass.

The image stays on the phone

Movement recognition runs on the phone. Only movement values reach the server, no images. The set’s clip is posted only if you want.

Where it runs

The PlanSports app

On iPhone and Android, from the Forma screen.

In the browser

On plansports.ro, with your account, from any phone or laptop with a camera.

Apple Watch

The watch measures your heart rate during the set, and it shows up in your history.

Voice and sounds

Instructions and the reason for every rejected rep are spoken, so you don’t have to look at the screen.

Try it without an account

The push-up and squat tests work without an account, right in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

What is Forma?

The part of PlanSports where your phone camera counts reps and checks your form: range of motion, tempo and body position.

Is video recorded?

No. The image never leaves the phone; only movement values are sent, no images. You post a record’s clip yourself, only if you want it approved.

Which exercises are there?

Push-ups, pull-ups, squats, sit-ups, lunges, jumping jacks and plank.

Why wasn’t a rep counted?

Because it wasn’t complete, was too fast or your body wasn’t in the required position. The voice and the set result tell you why, for example “knees on the floor” or “go lower”.

Why aren’t push-ups counted from the front?

From the front, with the phone on the floor, the camera can’t see your knees and hips, so it can’t check that your body is straight. Put the phone to the side, about one metre away.

Do I need equipment?

No, just your phone. For pull-ups you need a bar.

Can I compete with my company or gym?

Yes. Companies compete in the Forma Cup and fitness gyms in the Battle of the Gyms, once a month. Signing up is free.

How much does it cost?

Forma is included in the PlanSports subscription, 29 lei a month per account, with the first 7 days free. Forma competitions are free.
